Let's face it, our kids spend way too much time indoors, either watching too much television or playing computer or video games. Isn't it about time that they spend just as much time using their imaginations instead? Building an outdoor play house is a great way to get them started on this path and it doesn't take much in the way of materials of even time to build and it's a project that you would be able to accomplish on a weekend afternoon. Learning how to make a playhouse for your kids to unleash their imagination only takes a few simple steps.
Choose a good spot where you will be able to keep an eye on your kids while they're outside. Even if your kids don't know you're watching, you will feel safer being able to keep an eye on them, so choose a spot that you will be able to see easily and often. Keep in mind that your outdoor playhouse does not need to be elaborate, kids don't need much to let their imaginations run free. As long as it has four walls, a door and a few windows, they'll be satisfied. Ensure that the space you choose is away from anything that can fall over and is a flat level spot, which will make construction easier.
When you're purchasing lumber for your new play house, be sure it is not pre-treated. The chemicals that are used in pre-treated lumber could be harmful to your children, so natural lumber is always the safest choice. To start your project, put down a layer of play box sand for the floor and when it's level, sink four corner posts that are square to each other and then nail a piece of wood between each of them. Be sure all your corners are square, as this will safe you time in the long run!
Your kids can even assist in the construction of the new outdoor play house by helping to paint the exterior a vibrant color, and then having fun decorating the interior. A very simple construction will give your children endless space to let their imaginations roam free.
